Liberty Lake · stacked and upstairs dryers
Liberty Lake dryer repair when the vent goes up, not out
Upstairs laundry, a duct that climbs through the attic, a stacked pair in a closet barely wider than the machines. That is the Liberty Lake setup, and it shapes every dryer repair we do here, from grinding drums to cold, damp loads.

One Liberty Lake townhome call sums up the town. A stacked dryer had started with a faint squeak on the morning's first load; two months on, the grind carried to the garage and the whole closet shook. Behind the drum, the bearings had worn to bare metal. Our technician separated the pair, lifted out the drum, fitted new bearings and checked the belt, rollers and supports while everything was apart, because rebuilding a stacked unit twice is the costly way to fix it. Most dryers we open here are 2000s and 2010s machines, upstairs, in closets with little room to work.
We start where the air leaves the house. A meter and a thermometer show how hot the exhaust runs and how much air actually escapes, and if the dryer is suffocating, every later reading has to account for it. Next comes the heat side: element resistance on electric units, igniter and valve coils on gas, then thermal fuse and thermostat continuity, the door and start switches, and the belt path with the front panel off. Gas units also have their flame watched through a full heat cycle. All of that is the $99 diagnostic. It ends in a single written number with the $99 already inside, and once you approve, the repair usually follows right away.
Liberty Lake dryer symptoms decoded
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Squeak growing into a grind | Drum bearings, rollers or idler pulley worn | Pair unstacked, drum removed, bearings and rollers renewed |
| Two cycles per load | Roof cap damper stuck, or a screen at the cap packed with lint | Reachable run and cap cleared, screen removed, airflow measured |
| Slow even in a newer home | Flex duct crushed into a kink behind the machine | Duct straightened or replaced, airflow re-read |
| Runs for an hour, clothes cold | Element or thermal fuse, or a gas igniter and coils | Part replaced, then the roof run tested so it lasts |
| Looks completely dead | Door switch, start switch, fuse, or a burnt outlet terminal | Dryer, cord and outlet tested; failed dryer parts replaced |
| Burnt smell from the closet | Lint packed on the element or in the exhaust path | Switched off, then a full clear-out and airflow test the same visit |
Upstairs laundry in MeadowWood, Rocky Hill and the River District
In MeadowWood and Rocky Hill the laundry usually sits on the second floor, so the exhaust rises through the attic to a cap on the roof. Lint that would drop out of a short basement run settles in the vertical section instead, and a cap with a sticky damper chokes the whole system. Some of those caps were fitted with a bird screen that packs solid with fuzz. A screen does not belong on a dryer termination at all, and the residential code says so, because it catches exactly what the duct is trying to expel; we recommend a proper dryer cap with a damper instead. Starved of air, the dryer runs hot and the thermal fuse or element pays the price.
The newer River District homes are laid out better, yet we still find dryers taking two cycles because the flex duct behind the machine was shoved into a tight kink when the dryer went in. Gas dryers are common across the newer subdivisions, and each gas visit ends with a leak check. In the rental units near the tech campus, Frigidaire laundry centers turn up regularly alongside Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, Samsung, GE and Electrolux, and the parts for all of them ride on one van. A kinked flex duct is easy to miss because the dryer hides it, so on every slow-drying call we pull the machine forward and look. We clear whatever part of the run we can reach from the laundry room and the roof end; where a section is buried inside a finished wall, we flag it in writing rather than opening drywall unannounced.
Electric elements here fail the same way as anywhere the air is restricted: run hot long enough and the coil breaks. A Samsung front-loader in a Spokane-area home showed it plainly, tumbling through full cycles with a snapped tungsten coil after months behind a clogged vent; a new element came from a local supplier and went in the same day. When the trouble turns out to be the 240-volt outlet or the cord rather than the dryer, the technician tests both on the same visit and tells you plainly when the fault is in the home's wiring. Liberty Lake sits at the east end of I-90, inside our 35-minute map and on the same prices as Spokane.

Typical Liberty Lake dryer repair prices
Bearing and roller work on stacked pairs is a regular Liberty Lake ticket, starting at $175. A replacement heating element starts from $175, and clearing an upstairs run to the roof cap begins at $100. Think of those as where Spokane-area jobs start, not a quote for your laundry closet. The binding figure is written after the diagnostic, includes the $99, and reaches you before anyone picks up a tool. If a part has to be ordered, the return trip adds no fee, and payment happens once the dryer is working, by card, cash or check.

Questions we hear
Do you clean the dryer vent in Liberty Lake, or only fix the dryer?
Both, when a clogged run is what killed the part. An element or fuse that failed behind a packed roof cap will fail again on the same vent. We clear everything reachable from the laundry room and the cap, swap a screened cap for a proper one if needed, and measure airflow. Sections sealed inside finished walls are noted in writing.
Is a dryer that runs but will not heat worth repairing?
Nearly every time. Elements, fuses, igniters and coils are predictable parts kept on the van, and the rest of the machine is usually sound. The written number comes before any work. If the dryer is too old for the repair to make sense, the technician says so during the diagnostic and the $99 is your only cost.
Our laundry is a stacked pair in an upstairs closet. Is that a problem?
Not at all; it is the normal Liberty Lake laundry room. We bring a dolly, take the pair down, service the dryer and restack it level within the visit, at no extra charge. Mention the closet when booking so the extra minutes are on the schedule.
Gas or electric: which do you work on?
Both. Gas dryers in the newer subdivisions get a leak check at the end of every visit. Electric ones get the outlet and cord checked along with the element, since a burnt terminal can make a perfectly good dryer look dead. The diagnostic and the written warranty are identical for each.
The dryer smells hot or burnt. Should I keep using it?
No. Stop the cycle, turn off the dryer's breaker and phone us. That smell almost always means lint resting on the element or jammed in the exhaust, so it jumps ahead of routine work on our schedule, and the clear-out and airflow test are done in the same visit.
