Medical Lake dryer repair where the vent crosses the basement

Picture a mid-century basement with the dryer on one wall and its hood on the far one, twenty feet of duct between. When that duct clogs, elements burn out and cycles stretch. We repair gas and electric dryers in town and at the lakes.

Long vents in cold basements fail dryers in a predictable sequence. Lint packs the run, the dryer cannot move air, the element overheats, and either the thermal fuse opens or the element itself breaks. The owner sees a dryer that tumbles for an hour and returns damp, cool laundry, or one that stopped heating overnight. In Medical Lake the run is often long for a simple reason: the vent was added after the house was built, routed along the joists to whichever wall happened to be nearest the outside, with little thought for elbows or slope. That nearest wall is often the one where winter drifts pile up, too.

The symptom rarely points straight at the cause, so the diagnostic checks every system each time. We measure static pressure and temperature at the exhaust, meter the element or the gas igniter and valve coils, test the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat, listen to the drum and idler by hand and inspect the moisture sensor bars for coating. Gas dryers are watched through a full ignition cycle. The result is one written repair price with the $99 diagnostic already counted. Decline it and you owe the $99, nothing more; approve it and the common parts are on the van, so the repair usually finishes before we leave.

Basements, garages and rentals in Medical Lake

Housing in Medical Lake is modest and mostly older. The homes off Lefevre Street and the grid around it went up between the 1940s and the 1970s with laundry hookups in the basement, and plenty of those basements still hold a 1990s dryer turning on its original belt and rollers. After that many years of heavy loads, the rollers flatten on one side, which is where the rhythmic thump comes from. Most dryers in town are electric, which puts heating elements and thermal fuses at the top of our parts list here, followed by belts, idlers, rollers and door switches.

Out on Silver Lake and Medical Lake itself, the year-round houses often keep the laundry in an attached garage or a mudroom that falls close to the outdoor temperature in January. That brings a problem basements rarely see: warm, wet exhaust meeting a cold duct leaves water behind, and damp lint sticks to the walls where dry lint would have blown through. In the coldest stretch that water can turn to ice at a low spot, so we correct sags and slope the duct toward the outside where the layout allows. Several lake homes run gas dryers, so igniters, flame sensors and valve coils come along on those calls, and a leak check at the connection closes out every gas visit.

Rentals in town, many of them home to Fairchild families, have whatever dryer came with the house, and we work on all of them: Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG and Frigidaire. Medical Lake is twenty-five minutes west of our shop by US-2 and Highway 902, on the West Plains loop we run with Airway Heights and Cheney, so a same-day or next-day window is common. If you work at Fairchild, tell us when you are home and we will text a window before or after the shift. If the 240-volt outlet shows a burnt terminal, the technician tells you so plainly, and when a vent is too long or damaged to clear properly, the rerouting recommendation goes in writing rather than a patch.

Medical Lake dryer repair starting prices

For the electric dryers that fill most Medical Lake basements, a new element starts at $175. Gas units at the lakes more often need an igniter or valve coils, from $150, and clearing a long basement vent starts from $100. Use those figures as Spokane-area starting points, not as a quote; your price comes in writing after the diagnostic, already including the $99, and you pay by card, cash or check when the job is done. A reroute, where one is needed, shows up as its own line on the estimate.

Questions we hear

My Medical Lake dryer runs but the clothes stay wet. What is wrong?

Electric units in that state usually have an open element or a blown thermal fuse; gas units, a worn igniter or coil set. We carry all of them. The part is half the answer, though. In Medical Lake basements the other half is usually a lint-packed vent, which we clear on the same visit.

Will you clean the vent, or do I hire someone else first?

No need for a second company. When the vent caused the failure, we clear it ourselves and measure airflow before we go, since a new fuse behind a blocked run lasts only weeks. Some basement vents are too long or too crushed to clear properly; in that case the written quote describes a reroute instead of a patch.

Can you come before or after a Fairchild shift?

Usually, yes. Windows run early and late on weekdays, and Saturday is a regular working day. Text or tell us when someone is home and we will send a window that fits the rotation. Medical Lake is a regular stop on our West Plains loop, which keeps the wait short.

The dryer squeals on every load. Is it about to die?

Probably not yet. A squeal almost always comes from drum rollers or the idler pulley, and if it keeps running that way it turns into a grind and the drum starts wearing its supports. Rollers, idler and belt are normally replaced as a set, and we check the drum seals while the cabinet is apart.

Do you service gas dryers at Silver Lake?

We do. The lake roads sit inside our 35-minute area on the same price card as Spokane. Most gas dryer failures there come down to an igniter, a flame sensor or the valve coils, and the visit always closes with a leak check. If you ever smell gas, leave first and call Avista or 911 from outside.
