Ductless heat pumps · Spokane Valley

Mini-splits in Spokane Valley for additions, shops and ADUs

The Valley was built in single stories with a furnace in the middle. Add a second floor, finish the basement or convert the garage, and that furnace loses. Ductless heat pumps take over there, and we service ones that ice up or throw codes.

Most of our Valley ductless work follows a remodel. Two-story homes east of Sullivan have bonus rooms that roast while the main floor stays comfortable. Ranches in Opportunity and Chester have finished daylight basements that never climb past the low 60s. Shops and detached garages along Trent and in Trentwood get by on a kerosene torpedo heater and a cracked-open window, and families are putting up ADUs on the deep lots around Greenacres and Veradale. A ductless heat pump conditions each of those spaces without touching the old ductwork that the rest of the house depends on.

We start with the room rather than the catalog. There is no fee for the site visit, which measures the space, notes the windows and the afternoon sun, and sizes the head to the load, because an oversized mini-split short-cycles and leaves the room clammy in July. If extending the ductwork would serve the room better, we tell you that as well; sometimes the ducts win. For a unit already hanging on the wall, the repair visit begins with the code on the remote and does not end until a reading backs it up.

Additions, Valley winters and the four usual repairs

Two things tend to go wrong before we ever get the call. The first is the wrong class of equipment: a unit not built for cold sheds most of its capacity once nights drop under the mid-20s, so a September bargain is effectively a space heater by Christmas. Where a mini-split will be the main heat, our quotes list only cold-climate Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu or LG models rated for our winters. The second is a unit that nobody in the country stocks parts for. Last winter a Veradale homeowner called about one throwing a code no distributor could match; we said so at the diagnostic, and that was the whole bill.

Install details matter more than the badge. The outdoor unit goes where it can breathe and stay above the snow, each flare is torqued to the maker's spec, nitrogen proves the joints, and the vacuum pump runs until the system holds steady before any refrigerant moves, and the condensate runs to a drain instead of a neighbor's side yard. The dedicated circuit is listed on the written quote, and the whole job is permitted and inspected.

Most Valley repairs come down to four things: a flare leak that let the charge slip over a couple of summers, a coil and blower wheel loaded with dust and cottonwood, an algae-filled condensate line dripping down the wall, or a board or sensor shown to be bad with a reading. Multi-zone systems get their own conversation in shoulder season, because a head that seems broken may simply be waiting on the rest of the system. We also repair Gree, Pioneer and MrCool units where parts exist. Our vans make the run out I-90 in roughly twenty minutes, and the trip carries no distance surcharge.

Mini-split costs in Spokane Valley

On a ductless install, each added zone starts at $1,900 with the head and its installation included, on top of the outdoor unit and first head; a complete multi-zone system is quoted on request after the site visit, because its outdoor unit is sized to the combined January load. For repairs, a deep cleaning starts at $150 per indoor head, and a replacement indoor or outdoor fan motor at $300. The repair and zone figures are all starting prices for the area, so none is a quote; your approved price is put in writing once the $99 diagnostic is done for a repair, or after the site visit for an install. You get up to $50 off an HVAC repair booked online, never off the diagnostic itself, and up to $500 off a full-system install booked through the site-visit form, with the first-year tune-up included.

Questions we hear

Can a mini-split carry a Valley shop or bonus room on its own?

Only a cold-climate unit can; those carry rated heating output at −13°F. An ordinary model will not keep up, since its capacity falls away in the low 20s, which is why we do not install them as primary heat here. Bring the room's size and insulation to the site visit and we will show you the low-temperature capacity figures.

Why won't one head heat while another cools?

Most multi-zone systems run every head in the same mode. The outdoor unit is either heating or cooling, so a head asking for the opposite waits or blows room air. It is a design limit, not a fault. We check the settings first, then explain what a separate single-zone unit for that room would involve and cost.

How many heads can one outdoor unit run?

Four or five on most multi-zone models, but the count matters less than the load. We size the outdoor unit for the combined heating load of the rooms in January, not for the number of heads, because an outdoor unit undersized for winter leaves every room lukewarm at the same moment.

Is a mini-split better than extending the ductwork?

Sometimes, not always. If a supply run and a return can reach the room without starving the existing trunk, and the furnace has capacity to spare, the ducts may be the cheaper answer. If the room sits over a garage or across a breezeway, ductless usually comes out ahead. We price both when both are realistic.

I put in a mini-split myself. Will you work on it?

If parts exist for it, yes. We read the code, prove the fault and quote in writing. A flare leak or a blocked condensate line can be fixed on almost any brand. If the brand has no US parts channel, we say so before ordering anything, and the $99 is all you pay.

Call, text or book

Send a text with the code showing on the remote, or call, when a Valley mini-split stops heating or cooling; the repair figure we write already includes the $99 diagnostic, and there is up to $50 off an HVAC repair booked online. Thinking about a new unit instead? Book the install site visit, which is at no charge.
