Airway Heights · range and oven repair
Airway Heights range repair for the stove that came with the house
Most Airway Heights kitchens got their range the week the house closed, sometime between 2010 and 2020. At this age the first parts begin to wear, and almost all of them are quick fixes, priced in writing before we start.
- Builder ranges
- Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE and Samsung models from the 2010s build-out.
- Landlord billing
- Owner gets the invoice and warranty; tenant gets a heads-up text.
- Leak check
- No gas job ends without one.

Whether a ten-year-old builder range deserves a repair is the question Airway Heights owners ask us most, and our answer is almost always yes. On a range that age, the first things to go are small: an igniter, a bake element, a radiant burner under the glass, a sensor, an infinite switch. Each is a short, predictable job, and most are stocked in the van; convection fans, door locks and hinges are routine work as well. You stay in charge of the decision, because the price is on paper before any work begins. And when a range truly is not worth saving, the technician says it plainly and the visit ends there.
On gas ranges the igniters tell most of the story. A healthy spark igniter snaps roughly once a second and lights its burner within a few clicks; a healthy oven igniter glows and draws enough amperage to open the gas valve in under a minute. When the meter shows low current, the glow bar is worn out, and that is the finding in the large majority of slow-oven calls. On electric ranges we measure each element, inspect the receptacle for heat damage, test the infinite switch, and hold the oven sensor up against a thermometer. A code on the display opens the investigation rather than closing it. Whatever the fault, gas work ends with a leak check at the connections. The $99 diagnostic covers all of that plus the drive out, and you will find it rolled into the written repair price rather than added to it.
What Airway Heights ranges usually need
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Burner clicks all night, no flame | Igniter sitting in spilled liquid, food in the ports, or a weak spark module | Igniter dried out or swapped, ports cleaned, module tested |
| Gas oven slow to light, or never lights | A worn glow bar that cannot open the valve in time | Glow bar replaced, valve opening confirmed, leak check after |
| Electric oven cold, cooktop fine | Bake element with no continuity, a drifting sensor, or a failed oven relay | Element or sensor replaced; a new board only if testing points there |
| One zone under the glass stays dark | Burnt-out radiant element, its switch, or wiring cooked by heat | Radiant element or infinite switch replaced, wiring inspected |
| Oven bakes 25 degrees off | Sensor reading wrong, sometimes coated after a self-clean | Sensor compared with a thermometer, control offset adjusted |
| F-code, door will not unlock | Lock motor, a sensor, or the control has flagged a fault | Code pulled, the actual cause found on the meter, part replaced |
The ranges that came with Airway Heights houses
In Airway Heights, the builder usually chose the range. Drive the streets off Hayford Road, loop through Deer Heights, or follow the newer blocks south of US-2 by Lawson Street, and kitchen after kitchen holds either an electric smooth-top on its own legs or a slide-in gas model, most often from Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE or Samsung, set in place shortly before closing day. Those ranges are five to fifteen years old now, right when a radiant zone stops heating, a spark igniter clicks without lighting, or the oven sensor drifts twenty-five degrees out. Every one of those is a repair, not a reason to go appliance shopping. A smooth-top with one dead zone still cooks on the other three, which is why many owners put the call off; the fix is usually smaller than they expect.
A couple of local patterns speed the wear. Rentals near Fairchild change tenants every two years or so, and every new household learns the stove by experiment; spills run into the burner ports and under the cooktop, and an igniter left sitting in liquid clicks endlessly. The hard West Plains water plays a part too: running self-clean with damp racks inside bakes mineral residue onto sensors and latches. One recent call off Medical Lake Road involved a gas oven that needed four minutes to light. The glow bar was worn, gas was entering ahead of the flame, and a new igniter had it lighting promptly within about half an hour. Problems like that should never sit on the list.
Professional-style ranges from Wolf, Thermador, Viking and JennAir are rarer out on the West Plains, yet they show up in some of the larger new homes; their parts are ordered, and fitting them later carries no second trip fee. Property managers near Fairchild receive a written warranty for the unit file. If the real fault is the range circuit or a burned receptacle in the wall, we test it and tell you plainly that the problem is in the home’s wiring rather than the range. Wall ovens, cooktops, dual-fuel and slide-in units come under the same terms. From our shop, the run west on Sunset Highway takes well under our 35-minute limit, and Airway Heights calls get the same Monday-through-Saturday windows as in town, with no distance or Saturday surcharge.
Typical range repair costs for Airway Heights
For the builder ranges common in town, the three repairs we price most are a gas oven igniter, from $175; a radiant or coil surface element with its switch, from $125; and an oven sensor, from $125. Those are Spokane-area starting prices to plan with, not quotes. After the diagnostic, your range gets its own written price with the $99 already included, and if you decide the range is not worth the money, the diagnostic is the only bill. Payment is due when the range works again, by card, cash or check, and booking on our website takes up to $22 off the repair; the diagnostic itself stays at $99.
| Repair | Price |

| Gas oven igniter | from $175 |
| Surface element, switch or burner | from $125 |

Questions we hear
Is the builder-grade range in my Airway Heights house worth repairing?
Nearly always. A range of ten or so years typically has another decade in it, and its usual first failures, igniters, elements, sensors and switches, are short repairs covered by a written warranty. For the odd range that is not worth it, we say so before any work, and your bill is the $99.
My gas oven takes minutes to light. Should I be concerned?
Concerned enough to book. A slow start means the glow bar can no longer open the valve on time, so gas collects before the flame appears. Leave the oven off until we arrive, and should the house ever smell of gas, get out and phone Avista or 911. The fix is normally finished in one visit and followed by a leak check.
Can you come to a rental and bill the property manager?
Yes. Put the manager’s name and number on the booking. The tenant hears from us by text ahead of time, and the manager is sent the invoice and the written warranty by email. Managers with rentals by Fairchild and off Hayford Road use us week in, week out, and we fit visits around tenant work shifts.
Do you fix the burners under a glass smooth-top?
Yes. When one zone under the glass stays dark, the cause is usually the radiant element itself, its infinite switch, or heat damage at the wiring. We test each with a meter and replace what failed. A cracked glass top is a separate, larger repair, and we price it in writing if that is what we find.
Can the repair usually be finished the same day?
Usually. The van carries the parts these builder ranges go through most, glow bars, spark electrodes, bake and broil elements, radiant zones, oven sensors and infinite switches, for the Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, LG and KitchenAid models common in town. If something must be ordered, coming back to install it adds no second trip fee.
