Washer repair · West Plains, first stop of the day
Airway Heights washer repair before the upstairs closet floods
A stacked front-loader that walks across the closet on spin. A top-loader off Hayford Road that fills for twenty minutes. A door locked behind a flashing code. We find the cause with a meter and a flashlight and usually finish on that visit.
- Drive time
- Twelve minutes out Sunset Highway; often our first stop.
- Typical layout
- Stacked pair in a second-floor hall closet.
- Rentals
- Tenant gets the visit, owner gets the invoice.

Most mornings a van leaves West Columbia and heads west, because Airway Heights sits twelve minutes out Sunset Highway and makes an easy first call before the rest of the day spreads out across town. The neighborhoods on both sides of US-2 — Deer Heights, the blocks around Hayford Road and Lawson Street, the rentals close to the Fairchild gate — went up within the last five to fifteen years, and most put the laundry upstairs in a closet off the hall. That plan works fine until the suspension wears, and then the whole second floor hears about it. A Fairchild family with a full tub before a shift, or a property manager on Medical Lake Road with a tenant locked out of the washer, gets a text with an arrival window and a van pointed west.
We test a washer in the order it runs: fill, wash, drain, spin, controls. A timed fill reveals the state of the valve and its screens. Opening the pump filter during a drain test shows what has been living in the sump — a coin, a hair tie, a child’s sock. For the spin we take a panel off, watch the drum ramp up and keep a hand on the suspension. Door lock coils, motor windings and the pressure sensor all go on the meter. By the time the panel is back on, you have one written number with $99 inside it, and nothing comes out of the van until you say yes.
What fails on the West Plains, and the repair
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Pair shakes the closet on spin | Worn suspension rods or struts, or a stack that was never leveled | Suspension replaced as a set, pair re-leveled and brackets checked |
| Fill crawls or never starts | Inlet screens packed with West Plains mineral, or a failed valve | Screens cleared; valve replaced if its solenoid tests weak |
| Drum still full after the cycle | Pump jammed with a coin or sock, or a kinked hose | Pump cleared and tested, replaced if the impeller is cracked |
| Puddle on the laundry floor | Torn door boot, split hose or a leaking tub seal | Boot or seal replaced, subfloor checked for hidden water |
| Agitates but will not spin | Lid switch, motor coupling or a stretched belt | Switch, coupling or belt replaced in a single visit |
| Door locked, code flashing | Lock assembly, or a board reacting to a fault somewhere else | Lock tested first and replaced; board only if it fails the meter |
Second-floor laundry and West Plains water
Two things wear out early in Airway Heights. The first is the inlet valve. West Plains water carries enough mineral to pack the valve screens within a few years, so a machine that once filled in two minutes starts needing ten, and every cycle stretches until somebody notices the power bill. The second is suspension on the stacked pairs: a front-loader spinning at 1,200 rpm on a second-floor subfloor was never going to go easy on its struts. Clearing the screens takes minutes; a valve whose solenoid has gone weak is replaced, and the fill is timed again before the panel goes back on.
One recent Deer Heights rental had both problems at once. The tenant reported a machine that shook the hallway; the fill test turned up screens that were mostly rock. We replaced the struts, cleared the screens, re-leveled the pair, wrote one number for the lot and emailed the invoice to the landlord. That is the usual pattern with rentals here: give us the owner or manager’s contact when you book, the tenant gets a text before we arrive, and the paperwork goes to whoever pays. Tenants do not need to rearrange a shift for us; tell us when someone can be home and we text a window around it.
Rods and struts are always replaced as a set, and a stacked pair is re-leveled with its brackets checked, because a pair that rocks will chew through its next suspension too. Front-load boots tear along the fold and in most closets can be replaced without dragging the machine out. Door lock assemblies fail far more often than the boards behind them, so the lock is tested first. A pump with a cracked impeller gets replaced; one that is merely jammed is cleared, tested and left in service. We see Whirlpool, Maytag, Samsung, LG, GE, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Speed Queen and the stacked laundry centers local builders favored, and every repair ends with a full cycle and a written warranty. Those technicians also hold EPA 608 Universal cards, handy when the refrigerator is the next appliance to act up.

Starting prices for Airway Heights washer work
Out here the two common bills are suspension and fill. Replacing worn rods or struts and re-leveling the pair starts at $150, and a new inlet valve, when clearing the screens will not bring it back, is priced from $125. Treat those as Spokane-area starting points rather than a promise; the price you actually approve gets written after we have tested the machine, with $99 counted inside it. The rule on Lawson Street is the same as on the South Hill: book online and up to $22 comes off the repair, while the diagnostic is never reduced.

Questions we hear
How quickly can you get out to Airway Heights?
Often the same day, and frequently as the first stop of the morning, since the shop is twelve minutes east on US-2 and a van usually heads to the West Plains before anywhere else. Tell us the symptom and whether the machine is holding water so the technician brings the right pump and hoses.
Our upstairs stacked washer shakes the house. Is it worth fixing?
Almost always. Suspension is a wear part on a front-loader, and replacing the rods or struts and re-leveling the pair is routine work that carries a written warranty. If the bearing has gone as well, you will hear a roar on spin, and at the diagnostic we tell you whether the machine justifies that larger job.
Can you bill my landlord or property manager?
Yes. Give us the owner or manager’s contact when you book. The tenant gets the visit and a text before arrival; the owner receives the written invoice and the written warranty. We work with property managers around Fairchild and along Medical Lake Road every week, so the routine is well worn.
Why does the washer take so long to fill?
On the West Plains it is nearly always mineral scale in the inlet valve screens. Clearing them is part of the visit. If the valve’s solenoid has weakened, the valve gets replaced, which is a common repair, and you see a written price for it before any work begins.
Is the diagnostic charged on top of the repair?
No. $99 covers the drive to Airway Heights and the full check with a meter, and it sits inside the written repair price you approve. Decline the repair and $99 is the whole bill. Booking online takes up to $22 off the repair portion, never the diagnostic.
