Nine Mile Falls & Long Lake
Nine Mile Falls refrigerator repair that skips the haul
Swapping a refrigerator at a Long Lake house takes a truck, a ramp, two strong people and a staircase down toward the water. Fixing one takes our van up Highway 291 with the usual failed parts and the compressor tools on board.
- Twenty minutes
- Highway 291 past the Nine Mile Dam; cooling calls ride at the front.
- Outage restarts
- Start relays that fail when the power returns are a fast repair.
- Saturday route
- A lake-house fridge that failed midweek can be fixed the day you arrive.

Few places on our map keep as many cold boxes per household as Nine Mile Falls. A typical home has the kitchen refrigerator, a garage unit for drinks, and a chest freezer holding Long Lake fish, fall elk or a half beef bought from a neighbor up Charles Road. Suncrest kitchens lean toward newer French-door models with door ice; the cabins along the shoreline and out toward Tumtum run older top-freezers and whatever came with the place. Hauling any of them out of a lake house and a new one in is a project, which is why a repair on the kitchen floor deserves a hard look first.
Each visit opens the same way: a thermometer in each compartment, a hand on the compressor housing, a meter on the relay and windings, and a look at the evaporator behind the back panel. Within a few minutes that sorts the fault into airflow and defrost, where the parts are usually already on the van, or the sealed system, which gets gauges before anyone says a word about it. Older top-freezers at the cabins usually have a mechanical defrost timer, which the technician can advance by hand to test the heater on the spot. Then you receive one written number, and the $99 diagnostic is rolled into it. Decline the repair and the visit ends there, with nothing more owed.
What breaks in Nine Mile Falls refrigerators
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Warm after the lights came back | A start relay or overload that gave out on the restart, or a defrost cycle stuck partway | Relay replaced, defrost tested, temperatures logged |
| Chest freezer in the garage slowly softening | A thermostat out of its depth, a dead start relay, or a condenser packed with dust | Failed part swapped, condenser cleaned, plain word on the compressor if it is gone |
| Back wall of the freezer icing over again and again | The defrost heater, its thermostat or the timer has stopped clearing the coil | Failed defrost part replaced, coil thawed, air path reopened |
| LG French-door runs all day, barely cools | Compressor losing capacity, or a slow leak in the sealed system | Compressor or leak repaired, system evacuated and recharged in-house |
| Puddle beneath the crisper drawers | Defrost drain clogged with debris, or an ice-maker line split by a cold snap | Drain cleared, line replaced, subfloor checked for hidden water |
| Hollow cubes, then none at all | Minerals from the well crusting the inlet valve, or a fill tube frozen shut | Valve replaced, tube thawed and protected, fill volume measured |
Lake roads, outages and the garage freezer
Two local facts drive most of our calls here. Power along Highway 291 and the lake roads drops more often than in town, and a compressor that tries to restart against high pressure a few seconds after the lights come back can take out its own start relay or overload. The refrigerator then sits dark and warm until someone opens it. That is one of the fastest repairs we make, and we also clamp a meter on the compressor so you know whether the relay was the whole story or an early warning. A second outage within the hour is common on a lake road, so we also suggest a refrigerator-rated protector with a restart delay if the unit has none of its own.
The other regular is the garage or shop freezer, which lives in a hot building in July and near-freezing air in January, a range the basic thermostat in most chest freezers was never built to follow. Either fault costs little compared with what the freezer holds. We are frank about the numbers on chest freezers: a good one gets a new thermostat or relay, and a bargain unit near the end of its life gets a written no before anything is opened. Well water causes a third, quieter problem by scaling the ice-maker valve in the kitchen unit until the cubes come out hollow.
LG refrigerators have a known appetite for compressors, and sealed-system work is what makes a lake-house unit repairable instead of a haul to town. Every technician who opens a sealed system for us holds an EPA 608 Universal card: we recover the refrigerant, fit a new compressor and filter drier, pull a deep vacuum, weigh in the charge to the nameplate and watch the pressures until the box is cold. Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Kenmore, Maytag, Bosch and the built-in lines are routine too. If your place sits down a steep drive, mention it when you book so the schedule allows a few extra minutes.

Starting prices at the lake
After an outage, fitting a start relay and overload costs from $125, which is why that repair is worth making even on an older garage unit. A frozen ice-maker fill line, thawed and protected, starts at $125. Compressor or leak work on the sealed system begins at $700. Those starting prices are meant to give you a sense of scale before we arrive, not a quote; the binding figure is the written one after the diagnostic, and if a part has to be ordered, coming back to fit it adds no trip fee.
| Repair | Price |
|---|---|
| Refrigerator start relay / overload | from $125 |
| Frozen fill line thawed and protected | from $125 |
| Refrigerator sealed system (compressor or leak) | from $700 |
| Refrigerator water inlet valve | from $125 |
| Refrigerator defrost heater, thermostat or board | from $175 |
| Refrigerator condenser fan motor | from $175 |
| Refrigerator evaporator fan motor | from $200 |
| Refrigerator control board | from $300 |

Questions we hear
The fridge at our place on the lake is warm. Can you come today?
Very likely. Cooling calls get the first slots on the route, and a morning call usually turns into a same-day visit in Nine Mile Falls, Saturdays included. Fill a cooler with what matters most and keep the refrigerator closed. If the unit is clicking and stopping, leave it plugged in unless the breaker trips, so the technician can watch the restart.
Do you replace LG compressors, or is it time for a new refrigerator?
We replace them in-house, with recovery, a new filter drier, a deep vacuum and a measured recharge. Whether it makes sense depends on the age and model; plenty of LG units are worth a compressor and some are not, and you get our view in writing at the diagnostic before any money goes into parts.
Our garage chest freezer is full of fish. Is it worth fixing?
Most likely, and quickly. The usual culprits are a thermostat, a start relay or a dirty condenser, each a small cost next to a freezer of fish. If the compressor has died on a low-end freezer, you learn that at the diagnostic and can stop at $99; approve a repair and that $99 is already counted in its price.
The power went out along 291 and now the refrigerator will not start. Why?
The start relay or overload is the likely casualty. Right after an outage the compressor tries to restart against high pressure, and that strain can kill the relay. We fit a new one and read the compressor's current draw, which tells you whether the relay was the whole story or an early sign of a compressor wearing out.
Can you reach a cabin down a steep drive off Charles Road?
We can. Nine Mile Falls, Suncrest, the Long Lake shoreline and the roads toward Tumtum all sit inside our service area at the same price and without a distance surcharge. Let us know about the access when you book so the schedule leaves room for it, and mention whether the unit is a built-in or upstairs.
Call, text or book
From Suncrest to the shoreline, you can call, text or schedule on the website, and there is up to $22 off an appliance repair booked online. The $99 diagnostic is rolled into the repair price you approve, with no distance surcharge on any lake road.
